​Dance for Writers at Heart

​We will explore the art of storytelling through hand gestures (known as mudras), as well as aspects of the geometric movements found in south indian classical dance (Bharathanatyam). With the insights gained from this experience, we will engage in specific discussion and writing exercises to sustain an open mind, body and heart.

Ages: 16+, 2.5 hours – $35

Dance for Yogis at Heart

Using the basic form, posture, and hand gestures (known as mudras) of south indian classical dance (Bharathanatyam) we will create a yoga-inspired dance sequence set to traditional south indian dance music to create a highly aware mind, body and heart.

Ages: 16+, 2.5 hours – $40

Dance for the Inner Dancer

​​Using the basic stance, form, posture, footwork, eye movements, neck movements, and patterns of movement of south indian classical dance (Bharathanatyam), we will learn a short dance sequence of pure dance (nritta) set to traditional dance music. This will be followed by a a deep dive into the powerful world of storytelling inherent to the style using hand gestures (known as mudras) to create an awakened mind, body and heart. Be prepared for some cardio burn – the first half of this workshop is physically engaging!

Dance Mudras to Boost Health

​​Using select hand gestures (known as mudras) found in both south Indian classical dance (Bharathanatyam) and hatha yoga, we will learn the techniques of holding mudras to improve and boost the health of general body systems and reduce overall mental and physical stress.

Ages: 16+, 2 hours – $30

Dance for the Budding Writer – Teen Edition

​​We will explore the art of storytelling through hand gestures (known as mudras), as well as aspects of the geometric movements found in south indian classical dance (Bharathanatyam). With the insights gained from this experience, we will engage in specific discussion about the power of movement and body language, and complete creative writing exercises that will focus on opening the mind and heart.

This workshop is a fun and interactive way to empower teens with the tools of self-generated positive affirmations as well as movement for healthy living as a source of renewal from the ever increasing pressures of life as a teenager.

Ages: 12-15 years, 2.5 hours – $30

Dance for the Imaginative – Children’s Edition

​​We will begin with the reading of a traditional Indian animal fable and then learn related hand gestures (known as mudras), as well as the basic posture and footwork of south Indian classical dance to recreate and set to the rhythms of traditional south Indian classical music the animal fable discussed. We end with a discussion about the power of movement and the importance of body language/body image for a positive and healthy life.

This workshop is a fun and interactive way to demonstrate the innate importance of our bodies and increases each child’s personal awareness of how unspoken actions affect others and themselves.

Ages: 7-10 years, 1.5  hours – $18

Dance for Little Movers – Toddler Edition

​​We will explore the basic patterns of rhythm found in traditional south Indian classical dance and learn hand gestures (mudras) denoting different elements of nature (such as animals, water, fire, flowers, trees, birds etc) to create a powerful world of storytelling and communication through the body.

This workshop is a fun way to explore rhythm, the power of body language and story-telling and the pure joy of movement for children this age.

Ages: 2.5-5

(a parent, guardian, or caregiver must be present with the child for this workshop)
